about

Via Mike at Rok Lok Records:

"Since 2011 Cleveland, OH based The National Park Service has been quietly building a extraordinarily prolific discography of home recorded forays into ambient folk, drone, disjointed guitar driven indie rock, and sound collages that excel in reeling in a listener to experience moods not only in a internal, introspective sense but from an environment standpoint. Perhaps it is the literature major in me that sees The National Park Service as an aural extension of Transcendentalist ideals. Since the project's inception has predominately relied on releasing and sharing his music in the digital format via Bandcamp. Currently he has sixteen releases solely available in the digital format though given penchant for churning quality music in droves that number could certainly expand considerably by the time you read this. However, a mutual comrade within the tape label community, Lilly Tapes & Discs, was the first to bring the music of The National Park Service to folks in a tangible form first with the split cassette with Squanto and the concurrent collaborative cd-r with Squanto in 2012, and then a couple of months ago with the beautiful full length cassette "I Was Flying". And now Rok Lok Records is thrilled to offer The National Park Service's music in a physical form as well because while the digital format is certainly great to share music it is my belief that to truly appreciate masterful compositions one must listen to all the songs in a unedited sequence, which is an experience that only a physical format such as a cassette can truly offer. And once you put "Winter Clothes" in your cassette player you will know this first hand to be true, and it becomes apparent that The National Park Service isn't a collection of home recording experiments but a work with a very calculated purpose. "Winter Clothes" is the fourth physical release within the vast output of The National Park Service, and it is a work that meshes ambient soundscapes, layers of wavy guitar sounds and melodies, dissonant guitar noodling, knob twisting and glitching electronic sounds, and isolated, introspective slices of minimal bedroom folk to create a multi-layered experience that will captivate a listener for multiple sittings. "Winter Clothes" is limited to 50 home dubbed cassettes with stamped labels and full color, numbered j-cards."
